A ROMAN FAIRY TALE: THE LACUS CURTIUS

Here is a tale that had strong moral implications for Romans and symbolizes one of the most important areas of Roman thinking. And it is not bedtime reading.

In other posts, we have been discussing a couple of historical legal accounts from the records of Marcus Livius (“Livy”), who lived at the time of Caesar Augustus and his client ruler Herod the Great. The following legend was also recorded by Livy.

About Me.

I am a classical archaeologist focussing on Roman archaeology and history. I have travelled extensively since the age of two to 65 countries on every continent and have lived on four continents. I'm Australian, half English and grew up partly in Canada. I now live in Europe. 

​

I have worked on excavations and in an archaeological capacity in the Republic of Georgia (the site of ancient Colchis where Jason and the Argonauts found the Golden Fleece), Cyprus, Italy and the United Kingdom.

 

I am also qualifying as a medical doctor and have a previous Bachelor of Science. 

​

I have a number of academic publications and conference talks on aspects of Roman archaeology and history. 

​

I am also writing several well researched historical novels taking place during the Roman and Greek eras.

I achieved full grades for my thesis, which covered an argument concerning Herodian archaeology and aspects of the Julio-Claudian Roman dynastic connections.

I previously completed a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies and a Bachelor of Sciences at the University of British Columbia, Canada.

My Bachelor of Sciences focussed on microbiology and included pre-medical courses. I completed numerous electives in other fields including the earth and ocean sciences. My thesis covered the microbial corrosion and restoration of inorganic archaeological materials.
